“ For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law .” Romans 3:28
This word “justification” is an official word from the law courts of the day, coming from an ancient practice. As judges heard a case, they would consider the man being charged. If the judge considered him now “just” and free to go, he would put a white marble in an urn that sat on his desk. If the judge considered him unjust and punishable by law, he would put a black marble in that urn.
