Kevin Millard serves along with his wife Edineia, daughter Deborah and son Stephen with Fiel Publications in Brazil. Kevin was a member of Grace Life Church of the Shoals prior to attending seminary and going to the mission field. Kevin met his future wife while participating as part of a mission journey team from Grace Life in Brazil. He currently serves as the coordinator of the Adopt-A-Pastor program for Fiel.
As we get ready for next month’s Fiel Conference for Pastors and Leaders here in Brazil, we wanted to update you on what has been happening with our family and ministry. We are thankful for the Lord’s continuous provision and protection in the midst of a world that grows more tumultuous and hostle each day. May we look to Him, whose mercies are new every morning! (Lam. 3:22-23)
FIEL CONFERENCE IN MAPUTO
In July, Kevin went to Mozambique, Africa for the Fiel Conference for Pastors and Leaders in the capital, Maputo. Close to 350 participated in the two-day event as we considered the theme, “The Supremacy of Christ”. This year’s speakers included two Brazilians, a Mozambican, a Zambian (Choolwe Mwetwa) and one American (Michael Horton). The Lord is using this conference, along with our well-established conference in the north of the country, to challenge , encourage and strengthen the evangelical church in Mozambique. Please pray for this work as Islam, like in many other African countries, is coming in like a flood with money and mosques.
TRIP TO GUINÉ-BISSAU
At the end of October, two of Fiel’s missionaries, Sandro and Edvânio (in photo below with Kevin), will be traveling to the small Portuguese-speaking country of Guiné-Bissau on the western coast of Africa. They will be going there on a survey trip to meet with pastors and leaders, and look at the possibility of us having a pastors conference there next year. For the past four years, a number of church leaders in Guiné-Bissau have received theological books and other Christian materials via the Adopt a Pastor Ministry (www.fielministries.com). Pray for Sandro (who serves in Mozambique) and Edvânio (Portugal) as they “search out the land”. Both will be preaching and teaching God’s word, along with distributing literature. Kevin was planning to go on this trip, but nagging health issues has forced him to stay home.
MINISTRY TO CHILDREN
Edinéia and Kevin have begun helping with a ministry to children (Haven of Hope Brazil) one day a week. In addition to our work as the AAP (Adopt a Pastor) coordinators, we have been setting aside every Wednesday morning to minister to a group of 30 eight and nine-year-olds from a low-income area in our city. These children come from mostly broken-home, abusive situations. From 7:30 a.m. to mid-day, these children learn basic hygiene practices, participate in a Bible devotional, and have classes in computer, art, Portuguese and physical education. They also receive a lot of attention, encouragement, hugs, but most importantly, Christ’s love!
Many of you have been praying about our apartment situation. We have been hoping to buy the apartment we are renting, but at the moment (September) we are still far short of our goal. We have until the end of the year to raise the necessary funds, but we have begun looking at other options more favorable to our means. We know the Lord will direct us to the right place at the right time. We are thankful for those who have sent us special gifts for this need, and all of these are being set aside. Thanks for standing with us…keep praying!
To our regular supporters we say “THANKS!” This past May we completed 15 years in Brazil. The Lord has blessed us with an incredible sending church and faithful partners in ministry. Some missionaries have struggled to stay on the field due to a lack of support. By God’s grace, we continue to serve Him and share His word with many in Brazil and around the world. Thanks for being a part of our support team!!
