What No Man Can Do

Resources by:

But when the fullness of time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law. – Galatians 4:5

The mentality of a lot of these Galatians in this day was entrenched in the Law. It permeated much of the culture. These folks died under the law for thousands of years. Then, all of a sudden, God sends forth His Son and everything changes!

What does it mean when Paul says that Jesus was “born under the law”? It means God ordained that Jesus, His perfect, righteous, only Son, would be born of a human mother and He would be raised and live under both the ceremonial and the moral law of God.

The bible says Jesus’ parents presented Him at the temple. Why did He, the Son of God, have to be presented before those compromising legalists at the temple? The ceremonial law required that all firstborn male children be presented at the temple. He was also circumcised! Why? That was the ceremonial law.

Not only that, He also perfectly kept the moral law.  Jesus said in Matthew 5:17, “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.”

When Jesus died on the cross, when He breathed His last, He had perfectly fulfilled all ceremonial and moral law.  In this God required something of His Son Jesus that He does not require of any of His other children, that you must keep the law to be righteous before Him. He must be born under the law and He must keep the law perfectly. None of us come to the Father that way. So Jesus did something no other child of God has ever been required to do, and that which no other child of God is able to do.

And then while Jesus was hanging on the cross, a radical reversal happened in the Father’s mind. As His Son is hanging there on the cross, instead of looking upon Him as the infinitely holy, infinitely beautiful, and infinitely righteous One, He chose to look upon His Son as a sinful, miserable, wrath-deserving wretch. In II Corinthians 5:21, Paul says, “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf.”

You see, there’s only one way we could be free from the bondage of law. Jesus must be under the law, fulfill the law, and then take the crushing blow as if He were a lawbreaker. You are not under the law because Hewas under the law. You have escaped the just punishment as a lawbreaker because He endured such as if He were a lawbreaker!

The Description of the Resurrection, p.2

So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised [m]an imperishable body; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;

Proverbs 29, p. 3

A man who flatters his neighbor is spreading a net for his steps. by transgression an evil man is ensnared, But the righteous sings and rejoices. The righteous is concerned for the rights of the poor, The wicked does not understand such concern.
